What my clients have to say

Excellent 30 minute lesson that has given me a lot to think about and practice to improve my swing. Very good use of 'visual' references to aid me in my swing profile.

My son has become inspired to play a sport that he may not otherwise have taken up. Great communication and very welcoming throughout. Thank you!

New to Golf - Frequently Asked Questions.

We advise that all new golfers arrive at Tehidy about 15 minutes before their lesson is due to begin. The Pro Shop is positioned at the front of the main Clubhouse. Register with one of the Pro Shop staff and they will advise you where the Practice Ground is located for your lesson.

It’s a game for all ages and abilities. Plus its unique handicapping system allows people of different abilities to play and compete together.

Equipment can be provided if necessary. It is advised to wear comfortable (smart) clothing and a pair of outdoor leisure shoes with a good grip.

The team in the Pro Shop will guide you through a range of golf club options from new to second hand with choices to suit all budgets. Think of buying a set of golf clubs to buying a pair of shoes. There’s not just a one size fits all option and buying golf clubs should be treated as a considered purchase. The team at Tehidy are qualified to provide a ‘Club Fitting Service’ so you will be secure in the knowledge that you have been measured correctly for your set, at a price to suit.

Individual lessons are best booked in 40 minute slots and ideally spaced out no more than 7 days apart. Taking the lessons on a regular basis is particularly good for beginners as they don’t have the experience to practise effectively on their own.
Generally, after six lessons taken over 4-6 weeks a new golfer has practised the fundamentals required to play on a golf course. This would include set-up and swing and short game including chipping, pitching, bunker play and putting.

I encourage my pupils to get out and play even just a few holes as soon as possible. It’s important to experience the course to understand the joy of playing the game rather than just trying to improve the swing and hitting balls on a practice ground.
A blend of ‘Lessons Practice & Play’ is the ideal formula to take your game to the next level.

The Basics

noun: Golf
A game played on a large open-air course, in which a small hard ball is struck with various clubs into a series of small holes in the ground, using the least number of strokes to complete the course.
On our courses we’ll explain everything from how to get started to how to get into the right mindset to play competitively.

Long Game

noun: Long Game
The part of golf concerned with hitting the ball across the distance from the tee to the green.
Generally, shots that are made outside of >100 yards from the green are considered to be part of the long game .

Short Game

Think of the Short Game as being all shots less than <100yds into the hole. Topics covered would include Pitching, Chipping, Bunker Play and Putting.

Rules

The Rules of Golf are administered and governed by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A) and the United States Golf Association (USGA).

They are comprehensive and provide answers to the many issues that arise in a game that is played worldwide on many different types of courses by players of all abilities.

The underlying principle of the rules is fairness. As stated on the back cover of the official rule book

R&A USGA

“Play the ball as it lies, play the course as you find it, and if you cannot do either, do what is fair.”

Etiquette

Golf etiquette covers everything from how you dress, to how you behave – the aim is not to belittle anyone but to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the game.

If you’re not certain of what to expect then please ring and ask…

‘Honesty’, ‘Integrity’ and ‘Courtesy’.

Golf Jargon

Have you ever wandered what a Birdie is or a Par? As for a Double Bogey? I’ll explain all you need to know during your first lessons – don’t be afraid to ask..

Best Practice...
Short Game 60%
Long Game 40%
