How To Take Control

Small Improvements

Small improvements in all areas of your game normally translate into a steady consistent reduction in your handicap over time.
So far, so good, but how do you start this marvellous transformation? You need two things. The will to improve and the support of a mentor or coach who can guide you.

The Will

However, to experience a significant improvement, over a shorter period of time:
you will have to want to improve, you will have to work hard, you will have to make sacrifices and you will have to be prepared to make changes. The rewards will be worth it. Have you got the will ?

The Support

A friend may be able to help but is rarely able to offer an objective opinion and may not actually have the experience or training to identify which elements of your game need to be worked on first.

The best person to help you improve your game is a PGA qualified professional. The training they receive is invaluable and goes a long way to ensuring you will improve, whatever your current standard.

TPI

Golf like many sports is not played in isolation, many factors affect our ability to consistently play well – from our sleep patterns, to the reduction in mobility caused by injuries experienced in our youth.

I and many other PGA coaches have embraced the methodology of the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) which aims to help you become the best player that you can be. Don’t just take my word on it, continue reading below…

Titleist Performance Institute (TPI)

TPI is the world’s leading educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing.

Since its inception in 2003, TPI has studied thousands of golfers ranging from the top professional tour players to weekend enthusiasts. An incredible amount of data on players of all shapes, sizes, ages, and fitness levels has been gathered during this time.

Using this data, TPI discovered how a properly functioning body allows a player to swing a golf club in the most efficient way possible. Additionally, TPI has analyzed how physical limitations in a player’s body can adversely affect the golf swing and potentially lead to injury.

The TPI Approach

Just knowing the data can’t help anybody, but the TPI course trains coaches to identify key areas suitable for improvement and guides them towards solutions which will help you, the player.

The TPI trained coach will use a holistic approach and innovative technologies to help individual golfers improve their own particular performance.
Utilising advanced equipment fitting methods, detailed swing analysis, and science-based player conditioning TPI is the world’s premier player development centre.

Just that think about the evidence – 24 of the Worlds top 30 players are advised by a TPI certified professional. Source – World Golf Rankings

A Typical TPI Session

The typical TPI session is 90 min long and includes a swing appraisal & video capture to highlight & discuss golf swing issues.

This is followed by a 12 point physical screening process to locate any movement irregularities that hinder and restrict the golf swing.

A referral process and training program is then discussed & potentially implemented using relevant physical or medical expertise and assistance from one of the TPI Team.
